As idyllic as a sunset with a view of the Dolomite giants Latemar, Zanggen, Weißhorn and Schwarzhorn and across the Eggen Valley to the provincial capital of Bolzano, as eventful as a "Samrunde" with the possibility of a rest, as invigorating as the scent of the herbs and flowers around the farm, as entertaining as the games for young and old explorers: there is so much to experience on and around the Grotthof. The Grotthof and its surroundings offer more: more excitement, more relief, more palpitations.
The eventful history, the unique architectural elements, the traces of the past: a jigsaw puzzle that makes the Grotthof what it is today. Why are the beams of the "Eggental" apartment exposed? What is the advantage of the 2.5 m thick walls in the cellar? What special grasses and flowers grow in the meadows? If you want to know more, you can take a tour of the farm with Annelie or Markus.
Adventurers, tinkerers or explorers: children can play any role they like here. In the sandpit, in the playhouse, on the slide, on the swing or on the climbing rope: this is where children's dreams come true! Brand new for 2020: Our wooden tree house for an afternoon tea party or to play explorer. The children's programme also includes table tennis, table football, darts, archery, stilts, basketball, football and badminton. Rackets, balls and other equipment are available for hire.
With great attention to detail, passion and joy, Annelie - the artist at court - tells you about her passion, her works of art and the techniques she uses. Immerse yourself in new worlds, be fascinated by the special skills and be amazed by the results. Our tip: a crash course in the art of gilding, Annelie's speciality. Just ask Annelie.
Our panorama is nature! The Grotthof is surrounded by greenery, where deer and roe deer graze in the meadow, the sun slowly sets behind the rocky formations of the Dolomites and the background noise is the melody of the forest. Whether you're walking through the regenerating forest, relaxing in the surrounding meadows, surrounded by the scent of mountain thyme, yarrow, arnica and St. John's wort, or sitting in the special seating areas built by Markus himself: relaxation in its purest form, in true Grotthof style. Would you like to know more about the tree species, herbs and more? Annelie, Markus or Grandma Luise will introduce you to the world of herbs, the healing powers of nature and the diverse flora and fauna.
The Grotthof is an ideal starting point for cycling and walking tours of all levels. Our walking suggestion: The tour over the "Sam" - the hill next to the Grotthof in the direction of Obereggen. The starting point is the Hotel Bewallerhof in Obereggen. If you wish, Annelie or Markus can drive you to the starting point. After a 45-minute walk you will reach the Häuslersam. Here you can enjoy a typical South Tyrolean snack or lunch with local delicacies, relax in the deckchairs or on the lawn, while the little ones can let off steam in the adjacent playground. If you continue walking over the "Sam", you will reach the Grotthof in one and a half to two hours. Annelie and Markus sometimes join you on the walk. Tip: This hike is equally fascinating as a winter or snowshoe hike.
