The Grotthof is surrounded by green forests, lush meadows and a special peace above the village of Eggen in the Eggen Valley in South Tyrol. The Pichler family welcomes you to the Grotthof. They have been running the farm for generations and are happy to share their world with you. At the Grotthof the clocks tick a little differently: more carefully, more consciously and more intensely. Here, traditional influences meet modern accents, the spirit of innovation meets history, and hard work meets a lot of heart. But see for yourself...
In addition to the 90 hectares of spruce forest that has been the main source of income for generations, the farm is surrounded by untreated meadows with rare plants and grasses. Feeding the animals with nutritious grasses and home-grown hay, carefully growing vegetables and herbs in the garden, and living in harmony with and respect for the unique nature: this is how we live the organic idea. From 2020, the Grotthof will be a certified organic farm.
Experience an organic farmSince the Grotthof was first mentioned in 1237, it and its owners have experienced many ups and downs. The most important events include the division of the Eckhof into the Obereckerhof and the Untereckerhof, the renaming of the farm from Eckhof to Himmelhof and finally to Grotthof, the great fire of 1671, which is still visible today, and the move of the Pichler family to the Grotthof in 1786. These milestones have left their mark on the Grotthof and give it its unmistakable character.
Dive into historyThree generations live at the Grotthof: Annelie and Markus, their children Alex, Marc and Eric, and grandmother Luise. Together they work passionately and with heart and soul to run the Grotthof. Each has their own area of responsibility: Marc takes care of the forest and the agricultural land, Annelie looks after the guests and Grandma Luise is in charge of the garden. But they all know that it is only with the help of the others that the farm can survive and continue to shine.
Meet the Pichler familyThe Rosengarten room is furnished in a typical Tyrolean style, with wood as the dominant material. The wooden floor, panelling and ceiling give the room a cosy and distinctive atmosphere. Rustic and cosy: there is no contradiction in this room!
Book a roomThe two apartments "Latemar" and "Eggental" are unique. Spacious rooms, attention to detail such as the two tiled stoves or the exposed beams in the "Eggental" apartment make them special oases of retreat. The name is no coincidence! Spectacular views of the legendary Dolomites or the multi-facetted Eggen Valley await you from the balconies of each apartment. Best of all, you will only be disturbed by the sound of a deer grazing in the meadow or the bell ringing of our Galloway cattle.
