Through the seasons

A wow factor at any time

The Eggental is diverse, mysterious and full of surprises. In summer it is a retreat for nature lovers, in winter it is a playground for skiers and snowboarders, in spring it is a real insider's tip and in autumn it offers a potpourri of culinary delights and impressions.

Spring: For nature lovers

The small wonders of new beginnings

Spring is often associated with the magic of new beginnings. This is certainly true here at Grotthof: It is the time of year when the sun's rays declare war on the snow, the first crocuses and snowdrops emerge from the ground and nature slowly awakens from hibernation. The mixture of the first signs of spring and the last impressions of winter that adorn the Eggental valley is very special. While the slopes of the Obereggen ski area are still being conquered with vigour, the spring air can already be felt in cities such as Bolzano, Bressanone or Merano. And as spring progresses, there is more to discover at the Grotthof: the trees are fuller, the meadows are more colourful and the garden is coming back to life.

Summer: For adrenaline junkies

Sure-footed in the mountain summer

Bright sunshine, blue skies, lush meadows, spectacular light effects: A picturesque mountain summer awaits you in the Eggen Valley. From hiking and climbing in the Dolomites, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009, to biking on the many single trails and forest paths, to mountain meadows in all their glory. Motorcyclists are also welcome in the Eggen Valley: South Tyrol offers a wide range of winding mountain passes with unique views.

Autumn: For gourmets

Golden jewel

The sky is bluer, the days brighter and the colours more intense: This is autumn in South Tyrol! Hikers climb to the top of a mountain or two, long walks in the woods are full of surprises, colourful landscapes adorn the Eggen Valley, and the culinary arts are given a special stage. From the traditional "Törggelen" to typical autumn dishes with mushrooms or pumpkin and delicious local wines, there is something for every taste.

Winter: For romantics

Snow magic deluxe

Winter in the Eggen Valley promises fun in the snow, romantic huts and cosiness. While skiers can enjoy the 50 km of slopes with 17 lifts in the Obereggen ski area and the 40 km of slopes with 12 lifts in the Carezza ski area, cross-country skiers can look forward to 100 km of prepared cross-country tracks (Nordic and skating) and hikers and snowshoe trekkers can enjoy the idyllic paths around the Grotthof. Skiers and tobogganers can easily take the ski bus to the Obereggen ski resort, 6 km away. Tip: Night skiing and tobogganing by moonlight is offered several times a week at the Obereggen ski resort. For winter or snowshoe hikers, a hike from the farm to the "Häuslersam" mountain inn, to Obereggen or towards the Karersee is a good option.
A highlight in good snow conditions is the farm's own toboggan run!
